Kodansha has announced that “Rent-A-Girlfriend” (Kanokari) manga series by Reiji Miyajima officially has 14 million copies in circulation worlwide. The manga had over 13.5 million copies in circulation by April 2025.
Rent-A-Girlfriend has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since July 2017. Kodansha also published the manga in English. The fourth season of TV anime adaptation premiered in July 2025 and currently ongoing A live-action television drama adaptation aired in Japan from July to September 2022.
After being dumped by his girlfriend, a college student enlists a dating service to “rent” a girlfriend who, unbeknownst to him, happens to be both a fellow student and his neighbor.
