A key visual for Gate season 2 has been unveiled. The second season titled “”Gate 2 Tides of Conflict”. Directed by Toru Takahashi at Studio M2, the TV anime will adapt the ‘”Gate: Thus the Japanese Self-Defense Force Fought in Their Land,’ the sequel of the light novel series. GATE season 1 writer, Tatsuhiko Urahata, is returning to write the script with Shigeru Fujita serving as the characters designer.
Takumi Yanai released “Gate: Thus the Japanese Self-Defense Force Fought in Their Land” between 2017 and 2020. A bunkoban for Gate Season 2: Jieitai Kano Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri, illustrated by Kurojishi was published between 2020 and 2022. Gate season 1 first half aired from July to September 2015, and the second half aired from January to March 2016.
Four years after the closure of the ‘Gate’, the portal between the Special Region and Earth reopens once again after the otaku, Captain Yoji Itami (previously second lieutenant), successfully reconnected the other world. As the Japanese government once again tries to maintain their monopoly on the ‘Gate’, they send the JSDF to the other world to build a good relationship with the people there. Captain Gorō Edajima of the JMSDF goes together with the petty officer Tokujima, his subordinate and former cook, on a mission to explore the other world. At that time, an American journalist gets abducted, Edajima and Tokujima get send on a special mission to rescue the journalist. They both board the Oyashio-class submarine ‘Kitashio’ and sail the seas of the other world. But there they get mixed into various problems of the islands and the pirates.
